Earth Day is an annual event on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. This year's theme is Invest in our planet.

Robert, who is in the process of studying Innovation for Sustainability through Spring board, got together with his team to see what they could do to mark the day.

Nature plays a crucial role in the fight against climate change so the team decided to introduce a Biodiversity Day at the unit.

"We came together and talked about what simple things we could do that we could all enjoy. We opted to make a green space which would be good for the environment and will help with pollination," says Robert.

With the help of Operations Manager Rose Finn South 3, the team sourced plant boxes and hanging baskets and planted them with lovely spring flowers. They then added a wooden bench to the front of the unit for staff and customers to sit and enjoy the space.

Robert would love to see other An Post teams follow suit, he says:

"With Earth Day being celebrated tomorrow, I was hoping to inspire others in my cluster and beyond to do something similar. Even like ourselves if there is no land to use, perhaps they could follow our model of planting boxes and hanging baskets."

A quote from L. Brown: "We have not inherited the earth from our fathers, we are borrowing it from our children" is pinned to the bench as a reminder that we should all do what we can to preserve out planet.

If you and you team are doing something similiar to Robert and the Portlaoise team, please let us know by emailing postpeople@anpost.ie
