Security Officers Brian O’Connell and  Diarmuid O’Dalaigh,  GPO Dublin, are our latest VIP Award winners. 

Brian and Diarmuid have been awarded a Value in Practice (VIP) under the value: We put the customer at the centre of everything we do. 

In November 2023, Dublin City experienced violent scenes of destruction and looting. As the situation escalated, Dublin GPO staff were advised to leave work and evacuate the city centre.

However, Security Officers Brian O’Connell and Diarmuid O’Dalaigh stayed to keep the GPO safe and secure. They were nominated for their VIP Awards by Grainne Curtin, Ancillary Services Manager, who explains: 

"Brian and Diarmuid remained to secure the GPO during the chaotic events while keeping in contact with their supervisor throughout the night. The riots continued into the early morning until order was eventually restored.

"Despite the frightening ordeal, both remained calm and professional while protecting the GPO building. They are highly deserving and worthy recipients of their VIP Awards."
